Wooden 3D Puzzles

This series features laser-cut 3D puzzles inspired by eco-friendly vehicles from around the world. Each kit celebrates the ingenuity of human mobility—ranging from vintage bicycles like the Laufmaschine and Célérifère, to culturally unique modes of transport that exist only in select regions. These puzzles aren’t just builds; they are miniature tributes to transportation history.

Among them is the Jinrikisha, the human-powered vehicle that first appeared in Japan in 1869 and later became an iconic sight across Asia, still found navigating the narrow lanes of Kolkata. Its evolution gave rise to the cycle rickshaws of Delhi and further inspired ingenious regional variants, such as the Padyak in the Philippines—where a bicycle and sidecar come together to create a compact, agile city ride.

Each puzzle is crafted in the signature ‘Barsplit’ style—a design language that plays with “reveal and conceal,” allowing the structure to look airy, intricate, and beautifully translucent. Once assembled, the model transforms into a refined table sculpture, blending old-world charm with contemporary craftsmanship.

Every kit uses a clever interlocking mechanism, eliminating the need for glue and making the building experience clean, intuitive, and enjoyable. These puzzles offer a unique fusion of history, design, and hands-on creativity—perfect for hobbyists, collectors, and anyone who appreciates meaningful, eco-friendly craftsmanship.

If you’d like to build one of these designs yourself, the 3D Puzzles are available to explore and purchase in my shop.
